| It's back, and this time I'm actually going to do shit. By now you should all know what Pixel Hero II is, but for those of you who are to stupid to remember stuff, allow me to recap. Pixel Hero II is a rythem game in the vein of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, in which players choose between the Guitar, Bass, and Drums, and play their instruments in time to the music. However, where as Guitar Hero and Rock Band use licensed music from official bands, Pixel Hero uses VGM. FAQ
| Spoiler: | | | Q: Why another thread? A: Because fuck you, that's why. No but seriously, the older thread is about a year old and completely dead. A new topic not only indicates a newer engine, but will spark more interest than the older one.
Q: So is my favorite VGM gonna be in the game? A: Maybe, maybe not. Me and a friend from another site are currently colloborating on a set-list that will fit the tastes of a wide-spectrum of players, as well as cover a wide variety of franchises and game series, old and new.
Q: Wait, you're friend? What happened to us picking the songs? A: In all honesty, the set-list is more or less finalized at this point. Small changes may be made at certain points, and suggestions will be taken into account still, but it's highly unlikely at this point in time.
Q: Alright, so where's the setlist? A: It's a secret. As more and more content is added to the game, various pieces of content will be revealed through the news section above. This news section serves as a SSBB dojo, more or less, showing off new content to keep you up to date on the game development process, as well as to let you know when I'm being a lazy fuck and for you to yell at me.
Q: How big is the setlist? A: Roughly between 60 and 70 songs.
Q: Are these songs remixed or original? A: Original, as in taken straight from the disk, and remastered for a better listening experience.
Q: How big is the file size? A: About 500 or so MB all in all. I can't really say until the game's finished being developed.
Q: DLC? Can we has? A: That depends, can you has grammar?
Q: Fine, can we have any downloadable content. A: That's better. Yes, this DLC will be downloadable with in-game currency that is won by earning achievments, and contain achievements in and of themselves. So get your game ready.
Q: If so can we make suggestions for DLC? A: Not only do I welcome this, but I strongly encourage it as well. I'll be running polls and such not on a fairly regular basis during and after development that will help me when picking DLC or in-game tracks.
Q: Do I have to play on the Keyboard? A: Yes and no. Rock Band and Guitar Hero guitar controllers will be supported and can be used in place of the keyboard for Guitar and Bass. Drums however must be played on the keyboard unless I can figure out a solution to the problem with the drums controller.
Q: Is this multiplayer? A: Potentially. If it is, it'll end up being local multiplayer, and unless you have a big-screen, that seems like a stupid idea. It really all depends on peoples interest in playing multiplayer during development.
Q: Rock Band is g- A: We fucking get it. GOD.
Q: WAH, I DONT LIKE THIS SONG. THIS WOULD BE MUCH BETTER. A: Seriously, if you;re going to bitch about songs, don't even bother. I will take some suggestions into account, but once a song is programmed in, it's there to stay. And even for the ones that aren't, I wouldn't have added them if I didn't think they were perfect for the game.
Q: Can I help with __________? A: If you have experience with it, go right ahead. Graphics, Programming, and Writing are all up for grabs.
Q: When's the next demo? A: Don't know, you'll find out when it's done, dammit. |

| Well, if I may ask, what all VG series will you be covering? Can you give a few of the more important ones? |

| So will this be all the console games? from the NES (It had some good tunes, like VGM from Castlevania), to the New Gen Consoles?
Anyway is it just me or I never remembered a Pixel Hero 1? |

Seeing as how I want the community to help with programming the engine and generally get invovled, we're using Game Maker 8. While I myself will be using the paid version of the program, you can all use the free version, which has a very simple interface that even the less coding-oriented can learn with ease. Those who use more complex programming languages can also downgrade to Game Maker 8 with ease, as it uses the common "IF Then" statments present in all programming languages.

K, you'll be informed once story-mode development begins so that you can get working on the script.

I can't name them yet, that would be a huge spoiler. Just know that we're covering a wide range of series, from companies flagship games, to lesser, more obscure ones, as well as stand-alone titles.

Yes, although don't disclude PC games, they're still up for use. We've got song representation from back in the NES era all the way up to games just released this year.

That's because PH1 was made long before any of the forums existed. It's completely outdated, and not worth mentioning to anyone who hasn't played it by this point. |

| I'm intrigued. I used to be pretty active in the Frets on Fire community (an open-source GH/RB clone for PC for anyone who doesn't know), so I'd like to see how this turns out.
Just a question: Are there going to be remixed tracks and/or medleys? |

| I read through the FAQ and I know in-game song suggestions aren't being taken seriously right now and it's still too soon for DLC suggestions, but I'd still like to show this on the offhand it does become included.

Funny you should mention that actually, EOF, a Frets on Fire song editor, is being used for help when translating note charts over to the acutal game. Makes the process much quicker.

Only official remixes, and very few of those at that. No medleys. |

Crap. I want to help out, but I've never liked Game Maker. I find it slightly counter-intuitive. I have experience in ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0, a decent amount in JavaScript, HTML, animation, graphics design, and I have just begun to learn Objective C. Is there anything I can do? |
